Join us for our annual mountain birdwalk followed by our lunch time picnic at Julie Hammerstrom's property. Nesting birds, bluebirds, flycatchers and maybe even those famous turkeys! Rocky Mountain National Park
8 a.m. to around 3 p.m.
Find those elusive birds of RMNP with leaders who know where they live! Join leaders at 8:00 a.m. at Beaver Meadows Visitor Center Parking lot. Carpool into the park. Drivers need to have Parks Pass or pay entry fee from carpool fee $2.00 May start the trip by going to Medicine Bow curve to look for Ptarmigan. Then bird the willows and other areas lower down, looking for 3- toed Woodpeckers, sapsuckers, flycatchers etc. Bring layers of clothing, warm hat, gloves and wear boots (not sneakers). Bring lunch and water. Be prepared for any weather. Return around 3 p.m.

Spend a wonderful morning birding around the home of our hosts Ray and Nina Davis. Lots of hummers at the feeders and in the areas around the area. Meet leader at the Park N Ride in Lyons. Turn left at the only traffic light in town and go south 1 block to meet the leader. Bring your binoculars, a snack, drink and lunch. Bird until after lunch.

It's time to take this great trip to northeastern Colorado and see birds you just don't see around Boulder. Bird the special places of the Eastern plains for cardinals, Red-header and Red- bellied Woodpeckers, shorebirds, cuckoos etc... Must register in advance with the leader who will give you all the information on motel reservations, meeting places etc. Bring lunch , snacks and drinks for two days. Money for other meals and your motel. Need bug spray, hat, jackets, binocks, scopes, radios. Carpool fee at start of the trip is $20.00 each to drivers. Those 18 to 60 need to have a State Wildlife Area Stamp prior to the trip. They can be purchased any place that sells hunting and fishing licences.

Hike several miles on Rabbit Mountain. View migrating hawks, dryland birds and maybe even Bushtits. Gorgeous views of mountains and plains. Leave 7:30 a.m. from 4 mile creek Open Space parking lot .03 miles west on Lee Hill road from Broadway. Return about noon. Bring water, snack, hat, sunscreen, bug repellant etc. Carpool fee $1.00

    *Walden Wildlife Habitat - off North 75th Street between Valmont and Jay roads. Meet at Cottonwood Marsh parking area.
    **East Boulder Recreation Center - 5660 Sioux Drive. Take 55th Street from either Baseline or South Boulder Road, Meet at west end of main parking lot.
    ***SAVERS parking lot at Table Mesa Shopping Ceneter off Broadway 1/4 block south of intersection of Table Mesa and Broadway.
  • CARPOOLING ON TRIPS: We would like to ask that all participants pay their carpooling fee up front to driver at the beginning of the trip. Many times at the end of trip we forget and hopefully this will help as gas continues to get more expensive. Please be prepared with the exact amount, and don't wait for driver to ask you for it.
